Our Story
Here you will find where Treasured Adornments started and where we're going.
Treasured Adornments specialises in Crochet Collars and Caplets for special occasions. Our pieces are to be kept and cherished and we love to think of them as modern day heirloom pieces.
My first memory of crocheting is sitting with my nan in her little home on their farm. I can close my eyes and through scents and sounds I can be taken straight back. My favourite being the wood fired stove and Nan roasting something yummy for dinner. I still have many of her crochet and embroidery pieces and marvel in their detail and precision. She and her sister must have spent so many hours on their dairy farm making and planing their next projects. I like to think of them no differently to the artisans who work with wood, metal or pottery. Unfortunately over time these predominately female crafts/arts/skills are being lost and so are beautiful heirloom pieces which are not just useful and beautiful but also carry a story.
This is exactly why I started Treasured Adornments. I have little to remember my Mum by as she passed when I was 5 years old and her special things were not cared for and misplaced along the way. I have a few tiny things that my sister and I adore with all our being. When my Nan passed I was lucky enough get some of her treasured things and they are everything to me. I was lucky that everytime I visited her in the counrty she would give me something. Sherry glasses, tea cups, her handmade work or trinket boxes, these are now my heirloom pieces that hold a very dear story and which I will pass down to my daughter and nephew.
The thing I cherish more than anything of my Mum's, are the 3 broaches we have. They are nothing fancy, just stylish plastic forms straight out of the 80's. One cream, one 80's brown and the other burgundy. I've had to replace the backs though we don't wear them on a regular basis. My sister and I created a story for these that adds to the priceless value these hold for us already, we wore them on our wedding day and now sit pride of place on my side board. They are our try heirloom pieces and I tell this story to my daughter regularly. One day when she wears it or even takes it in her bag to her wedding the story will continue.
Treasured Adornments' pieces are made slowly by-hand and every part from design to the finished product is done with love and intention. This can be seen and felt when wearing it. The story you create on your special day will add on to this already powerful story of craftsmanship and the energy you carry in it onto the next generation. Let's celebrate artisan made heirloom pieces and appreciate the skills that have been passed down for generations but are slowing disappearing.
The future looks bright for artisans. People want to feel, wear and smell hand made items again. Since the rise of AI and the like, the need to be using our hands and making is on the rise. We do not believe in perfection at Treasured Adornments. Our pieces are made by hand and the tiny imperfections make it one of a kind. They are what make people stop and want to feel it and ask what it's story is.
